A beautiful morning on the gallops today once the mist lifted, with lots of visitors to watch the horses going through their paces. Short on opportunities for those that are fit and ready to run at present but October looks like being a busy month.
Delighted to support the National Association of Racing Staff Golf Day yesterday at the Belfry. Owners Bob Scott, Colin Pocock and David Fish joined me for a beautiful afternoon of not so beautiful golf – although we did finish fourth. Very pleased to help NARS Chief Executive George McGrath in all his team’s work.
Thank you for all the kind messages about National Racehorse Week. It looks to have been a popular idea and we look forward to developing the initiative in the future and thank you to all who helped Adlestrop Stables celebrate the racehorse.
Sad to hear the recent passing of trainer John Sutcliffe who trained at Epsom for many years and was the first yard I would pass on my walk to Epsom Downs as a child. I’ve always followed his horses with great interest and he was certainly one of Epsom’s racing legends. Also it was sad to hear of the death of former senior steward Christopher Spence. He was a wonderful man and racing administrator and his picture is on the wall of my office when presenting La Landiere’s Cathcart Trophy. Racing owes him a great deal in many ways.
